Poker players will need to raise their games if they are to make decent returns on the card tables this year.
This is the suggestion of Lou Krieger, who wrote for Poker Player Newspaper that with the credit crunch causing people to cut back on taking too many risks on the felt, card sharps might have to work harder if they are to earn their money.
"If you want to succeed in 2009, you have to resolve to move your game forward," he remarked.
Mr Krieger stated that if people do not try to improve the way they play, they may end up becoming the fish that they themselves have been able to exploit in recent years.
"You might find yourself referred to in that most desultory of terms - a contributor," he explained.
However, even if people do brush up on the way they play, they should be prepared that they may not be able to make as much money during 2009 as they have previously.
Mr Krieger is the co-author of Poker for Dummies and the editor of Poker Player Newspaper.
