Abdellatif leads after day 1a of EPT Deauville

2009-01-21 12:45:47

Jonathan Abdellatif of Belgium finished day 1a of the European Poker Tour (EPT) tournament in Deauville as the leader with 105,000 chips in his stack.

The Belgian ended the opening session with 25,200 more chips than Guillaume De La Gorce in second place and a further 7,300 more than Manuel Bevand in third.

Oliver Da Silva (64,700) and Conor Crilly (64,000) rounded out the top five.

A total of 302 competitors took part in the first day's action - buying in for €5,000 ($6,470) - and the EPT is predicting that the attendance record of just over 400 set three years ago is going to be shattered.

Approximately 550 are registered for the competition, meaning the prize pool could reach as high as €3 million.

Isabelle Mercier was among the big names to successfully progress to day two as she looks to replicate her feat of reaching the final table at Deauville in 2006.
