Women dominate on day 2 of Aussie Millions main event

2009-01-22 14:05:39

Two women led the chip counts after day two of the Aussie Millions main event.

Online qualifier Annica Ivert finished the session with 555,900 chips, leaving her 101,100 ahead of the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe main event winner Annette Obrestad in second place.

Rajkumar Ramakrishnan was third on 388,200, followed by David Docherty (362,000), Stewart Scott (348,000) and Karl Bullock (347,800).

European Poker Tour titlist Patrik Antonius was seventh with 335,900 chips in his stack.

Mark Vos, Phil Laak, Ivan Demidov, James Obst, Neil Channing and David Saab were among the day's big name casualties.

No women made it to the final table in the 2008 Aussie Millions main event, but Ivert and Obrestad are in the best possible positions to make things different this year.

Only two female poker players have ever made it to the last day of the competition, with Kristy Gazes the last one in 2007.
