Kranich wins at EPT Deauville

2009-01-26 12:02:02

Moritz Kranich of Germany picked up the first major title of his career over the weekend as he took victory in the European Poker Tour (EPT) event in Deauville.

France's Arnaud Esquevin was Kranich's heads-up victim at the end of the competition, eventually succumbing when his ace-three lost out to the champion's ace-seven in the final hand of the tournament.

Tristan Clemencon, another Frenchman, finished third, followed by Andrea Bonelli of Italy and Jonathan Azoulay, who was also one of the final table finishers competing on home turf.

Jorn Walthaus of the Netherlands was sixth, with France's Bruno Launais and Thomas Delattre rounding out the top eight.

Kranich received €851,400 ($1.09 million) for his triumph, making him the fourth biggest money winner of the year so far behind fellow EPT titlist Poorya Nazari ($3 million), Anthony Gregg ($1.7 million), Aussie Millions champion Stewart Scott ($1.3 million) and Benjamin Spindler ($1.1 million).
