Scott takes down Aussie Millions main event

2009-01-26 12:00:52

Stewart Scott emerged from Melbourne's Crown Casino A$2 million (£1.3 million) richer over the weekend as he took victory in the main event of the Aussie Millions.

The Australian defeated Peter Rho heads-up to take the title, triumphing when his pair of aces held up against Rho's ace-jack in the final hand of the competition.

Elliott Smith finished in third place, followed by two more Australians - Rajkumar Ramakrishnan and Sam Capra.

Zach Gruneberg was sixth, ahead of Richard Ashby in seventh and Barny Boatman - the only big name at the final table - in eighth.

Scott's win puts him alongside an illustrious list of players to have taken down the Aussie Millions main event since the tournament series began back in 1998.

Among the notables to have taken the crown are renowned English card sharp Tony Bloom (2004) and Denmark's three-time World Poker Tour titlist Gus Hansen (2007).
