The removal of re-buy tournaments from this year's World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been welcomed by Daniel Negreanu.
In his Full Contact Poker blog, the double World Poker Tour titlist claimed he is glad to see them go, even though he enjoys taking part in such events and feels they would have given him a better chance of winning his fifth WSOP bracelet.
"Frankly, re-buy events should have never been a part of a world championship series event - and what is happening this year is simply fixing that mistake," he remarked.
Negreanu believes that professionals have an unfair advantage in re-buy tournaments and claimed it is better for the sport that such competitions are not held with a gold bracelet on the line.
In 2008, one of the re-buy events - $1,500 pot-limit Omaha - was won by Layne Flack, who picked up the sixth WSOP title of his career.
