Gold looking forward to NBC heads-up event

2009-03-03 16:54:18

Jamie Gold has revealed he is excited about taking part in next week's NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship.

The 39-year-old qualified for the tournament automatically as the 2006 World Series of Poker main event winner and wrote in his Bluff Magazine blog that he is looking forward to the occasion, which "is always a lot of fun".

Gold has never failed to get past the first round of the National Heads-Up tournament in two appearances, although he did get knocked out in the second round both times.

His 2007 victory came against Jennifer Tilly, with Phil Gordon his eventual conquerer. In 2008, he eliminated Tom Kelly in the opening match before being sent packing by Scot Fischman.

The brackets for the 2009 event have yet to be drawn, but last week's announcement of which players will be taking part has already caused a stir.

Bellagio Cup II winner Shannon Shorr wrote in his blog that he felt he had been snubbed by not being included and believed himself to be more deserving of a place than many of those who got the nod.
