Expert breaks down poker into 'chain of events'

2009-03-04 14:58:13

Playing a good game of poker can be broken down into a "chain of critical events", one expert has advised.

In a recent Card Player blog entry, former WPT Borgata Poker Open winner Roy Winston says that heading out on a golfing holiday has given him time to think about the many decisions that can be made in a game.

He states that when playing cash games, a below average run can still be turned into a winning session by pragmatically looking at the big decisions and how they affect the whole play.

"I believe in the chain of critical events theory," he explains. "What this means [is] that usually it's not one bad decision that gets you in trouble, but usually at least two and often times three."

He goes on to say that although individual moves can seem reasonable at the time, it does not take long for them to add up to one error after another.

Winston was ranked 16th in the 2007 Money List.
