Maryland player wins 1st round of WSOP Circuit

A 24-year-old from Fallston, Maryland has pocketed a cool $63,336 at the first round of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit in Atlantic City.
Brian Fitzpatrick won his biggest cash prize ever at the New Jersey event, which was a $340 buy-in no-limit Texas hold'em game played over two days.
Ranked fourth on the second day, he managed to beat his opponents in around four hours, lucking in with a jack on the river during the final hand that enabled him to make a higher pair and take the title ahead of Bill Pollard - another Maryland resident.
"As they say, 'that's poker'," Bluff Media remarked.
Pollard took home $33,616, although Fitzpatrick had the honor of receiving a gold ring, which is given to all tournament winners. The organization said this year's motto is "first the ring, then the bracelet".
The WSOP Circuit finishes March 14th and turnout is expected to be big at the Caesar's Palace location, given the exciting games ahead. The biggest buy-in of the tournament is at event nine, when players can take a place at the table for $5,150.
