Readers of new poker book 'likely to benefit from tips'

Readers of a new poker book are likely to gain some kind of benefit from the tips it offers, a reviewer has claimed.

Martin Harris gave Poker Winners Are Different by Alan Schoonmaker a once-over for the Poker News site and said it was an insightful look into the psychological makeup of players.

Although the author states that no actual data exists to measure winners and losers of the game, natural ability limits how much one can build on their own skills to become a champion.

To this end, personality and behaviour have a huge effect on how successful a poker player is and this is the area Mr Schoonmaker concentrates on in his book.

Controlling focus, reacting to feelings and transmitting information are all covered, with chapters given titles such as Winners Are Brutally Realistic and Winners Depersonalize Conflicts.

"Anyone ... who reads attentively, performs the recommended exercises, and does the work will surely gain at least some practical benefit or self-insight," concluded Mr Harris.

Other titles by the author include The Psychology of Poker and Your Worst Poker Enemy.
