NBC Heads-Up tournament 'reflects global poker popularity'

The NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship reflects the popularity of international poker in its size, one of the organisers has suggested.
Mori Eskandani, the tournament's producer, told Card Player's Ryan Lucchesi this week that with some of the biggest gamers in the world and a growing amount of coverage, 2009 always promised to be a great year.
He explains more European players and a higher number of online qualifiers meant the winner could come from anywhere - and this adds a certain amount of "spice" to proceedings.
"You have your well-known superstar poker players and you have your celebrities who have a passion for poker," he explains.
In addition, he suggests that with the inclusion of people who are considered clear "underdogs", there is always someone for the more casual viewer to get behind.
The event is screened on NBC Sports and the title was taken by Huck Seed.
