Poker festival 'ups the stakes'

An event is coming to Aspers Casino in Newcastle next month that is offering a prize pool of £32,000.
The Virgin Poker Festival returns to the city with on the back of its success last year and claims visitors can expect the 2009 event to be "bigger and better" than ever.
Between Saturday April 4th and Sunday April 5th, a two-day live tournament will be the focus of the gameplay, although a wide selection of fringe activities and things to do will also take place.
Up to 200 players are expected to participate in the Texas Hold'em No Limit Freezeout event and starting stacks will be set at 10,000.
Joe Legge, poker manager for the event, said: "This year we've upped the stakes with the biggest prize pool yet and we are looking forward to creating another event that gives poker enthusiasts a fantastic playing experience."
It was also recently announced that famous faces including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are expected to feature in a celebrity poker tournament scheduled to take place at the Cannes Film Festival later this year.
