Chartier takes down WSOP Circuit event

2009-03-16 14:02:49

Samuel Chartier became the latest person to win a World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit event over the weekend, taking victory in the tour's most recent competition at Caesars Atlantic City in New Jersey.

The Canadian defeated John Nixon heads-up to take the title, eventually triumphing when his ace-jack held up against his opponent's ace-ten in the final hand of the tournament.

A total of $322,944 was presented to Chartier for his troubles, while Nixon took home $177,619.

Frank Vizza was third, followed by Michael Michnik and Alex Bolotin. Matt Brady, Jason Young, Chris Klodnicki and David Zeitlin rounded out the top nine.

The victory marks the second time in less than 12 months that Chartier has managed to secure a six-figure payday.

In September, he finished seventh in the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona event, earning around $250,000. That competition was won eventually by EPT regular Sebastien Ruthenberg of Germany.
