Cloutier tops WSOP runner-up list

TJ Cloutier has been named as the number one World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event runner-up of all time.
The veteran, who finished second to Bill Smith in 1985 and Chris Ferguson in 2000, was heralded by Poker News for his hugely successful career, which has made him one of the biggest money winners in live tournament history and one of the few players to own six WSOP bracelets.
Success outside of the main event appeared to have the biggest impact on the rankings, with eight-time WSOP bracelet holder Erik Seidel listed second, ahead of Dewey Tomko, David Williams and Paul Wasicka.
Alan Goehring, Sam Farha, Julian Gardner, John Strzemp and Ivan Demidov also made the list, which excluded players such as Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan who did manage to win poker's biggest event in addition to finishing second.
Walter 'Puggy' Pearson is the only player to have finished runner-up in back-to-back main events, but he too was disqualified from the list for winning at the third attempt against eventual three-time champion Johnny Moss.
