Ferrera crowned Wynn Classic champion

2009-03-19 11:25:21

Keith Ferrera became the 2009 Wynn Classic champion on Wednesday (March 18th) night, winning $255,000 for his troubles.

Ferrera defeated Kyle Wilson heads-up to seize the crown after the two competitors and third-placed Cory Zeidman decided to chop the prize money in line with the Independent Chip Model, Card Player reports.

As such, Wilson received $249,000 for finishing as runner-up and Zeidman took home $210,000.

Ed Perry finished fourth, ahead of Wayne Boich, Justin Newton, Alex Melnikow, Praz Bansi and Evan McNiff.

Jimmy Fricke, one of the favourites going into the last day, failed to reach the final table and was eliminated in 11th place.

In the final hand of the competition, Wilson led pre-flop with pocket jacks to Ferrera's ace-jack.

However, two aces came up on the board to give Ferrara a set and secure his victory.

The win earned Ferrara his biggest cash prize to date, more than doubling the $100,000 he won during one of the preliminary events of the 2008 Bellagio Cup.
