Madsen predicts rise of young HORSE players

2009-04-02 12:36:41

Two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder Jeff Madsen has predicted that there will be an increase in young card sharps doing well in HORSE tournaments over the next few years.

HORSE is generally considered to be an older player's game, but Madsen told Card Player magazine that a growing number of youngsters are now learning to play more than just no-limit Texas hold'em - and they could threaten their more experienced rivals in the future.

He suggested that these players might be developing a new approach to the game and that they may benefit from usual HORSE stereotypes.

"The perception when an older guy sees a young kid playing HORSE, they might give him less respect or not think he's as good a player, so that might work to their advantage," he remarked.

At the WSOP, the $50,000 HORSE competition, which was brought in back in 2006, is considered to be the most prestigious tournament to win outside of the main event.

David 'Chip' Reese, Freddy Deeb and Scotty Nguyen, all highly experienced professionals, are the only people to have won the event so far.
