Johansson takes down Irish Poker Open

2009-04-14 16:50:45

Christer Johansson emerged from the 2009 Irish Poker Open €600,000 ($769,000) richer yesterday (April 13th) after successfully negotiating the final table.

The Swedish competitor, who holds a World Poker Tour title, defeated Kara Scott heads-up to take down the event and walk away with the first-place prize.

Andrew Pantling had gone into the final table with a substantial chip lead, but he was unable to hang on to it and eventually went home in first place.

Atanas Gueorguiev was fourth, followed by Lee Brooke-Pearce and William Kassouf.

Bradley Verburg, Andy Bradshaw and Philip Baker rounded out the top nine.

The Irish Poker Open is one of Europe's biggest poker events and one of the oldest, having run every year since 1980.

Among the big names to have taken the main event crown over the years are Neil Channing (2008), Marty Smyth (2007), Joe Beevers (2003) and Noel Furlong (1987, 1989).
