"Best to fold marginal hands" when on tilt

2009-04-15 12:29:11

When on tilt during a poker tournament it is a good idea to fold any marginal hands, according to one card sharp.

Dennis Phillips, who finished third in the 2008 World Series of Poker main event, wrote in his Card Player blog this week that after having a bad hand, players should attempt to get their focus back and avoid playing potentially dangerous pots until they do so.

"If you feel yourself tilting, even a little bit, it's best to fold marginal hands and take a mental break right at the table while you regroup," he remarked.

He stated that during a cash game he normally walks away for a short while to calm down, but explained that this is simply not possible in a poker tournament, particularly if it is nearing the end.

Earlier this month, Phillips won $36,496 when he took victory in event three of the Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza II.
