EPT San Remo begins tomorrow

2009-04-17 13:46:54

The penultimate leg of this season's European Poker Tour (EPT) gets underway tomorrow (April 18th) in San Remo, Italy.

More than 700 people turned up to play the inaugural €5,000 buy-in event last year, making it the third most popular EPT tournament on the calendar behind the Grand Final in Monte Carlo and the Caribbean Poker Adventure.

American Jason Mercier walked away with the first-place prize of €869,000 ($1.13 million) after defeating Frenchman Antony Lellouche heads-up.

Dario Minieri, who went on to win a World Series of Poker bracelet later in the year, finished third, ahead of Eric Koskas, Gregory Genovese, William Thorson, Dag Palovic and Marcus Bower.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, there will be just one week until season five of the EPT comes to an end at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort in Monaco.

The Grand Final is one of the biggest poker tournaments of the year and could boast a winner's prize worth in excess of $3 million.
