Field halved at WPT Championship

2009-04-21 14:33:03

There are 168 players left going into the third day of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship, the field having been cut from 338.

Day 2 began with 301 still in the mix, after high starting stacks contributed to a low number of busts in the day 1 flights.

And after ten levels of play it is Jean-Noel Thorel who tops the leaderboard, with a chip count of 743,500.

In second place is Betrand Grospellier with 678,300, while Steve Billirakis, Dan Heimiller and Justin Young are all above the 600,000 mark.

At the other end, Howard Lederer and Daniel Negreanu have plenty of work to do if they are to remain in contention for the $2.1 million top prize, with less than 36,000 chips each.

The WPT Championship is taking place at the Ballagio in Las Vegas, where David Ciu was the winner in 2008 - taking home over $3.3 million.
