Firefighter takes down WSOP Circuit event

2009-04-21 14:33:59

George Lusby has won the two-day no-limit hold 'em event at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit in Las Vegas.

A 42-year-old firefighter from Kentucky, Lusby beat Brad Hood heads-up at the final table, with three kings netting him nearly $45,000.

The tournament, held at Caesars Palace, saw 116 entrants and Lusby had to bide his time to take control.

He went into the final table in eighth place out of nine, with Hood and Kyle Bowker the chip leaders.

Bowker eventually finished fifth, busting out to Lusby with a set of sevens when the eventual winner hit a set of nines on the turn.

The total prize money generated by the event was $168,780, with Hood taking home just over $27,000 for his runner-up finish.

Last week, John Juanda and Mike Matusow were added to Bluff Magazine's list of the greatest ever WSOP champions, named in the 28th and 27th positions respectively.
