Billirakis takes lead at Bellagio

2009-04-22 14:26:21

The fourth day of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship will get underway at the Ballagio in Las Vegas, with Steve Billirakis in the chip lead.

Billirakis, the youngest-ever winner of a World Series of Poker bracelet, went into day 3 in third place but emerged at the head of the 62 players remaining.

A chip count of 1,722,000 gives him the edge over second-placed Matt Hyman, who is on 1,633,000.

But there is likely to be plenty of pressure placed on the leaders as the top ten includes the likes of Phil Ivey, Mark Seif, Freddy Deeb and Nenad Medic.

Jean-Noel Thorel, who began day 3 as chip leader, has been knocked out, but former tennis champion Boris Becker is among the 62 still in the running.

Earlier this week, Daniel Negreanu told in his Full Contact Poker blog of how he had been "impressed" by Becker's play at the WPT Championship.
