EPT Grand Final to get underway in Monte Carlo

2009-04-27 16:25:02

The Grand Final of the European Poker Tour (EPT) gets underway tomorrow (April 28th), with a high turnout expected.

Last week's EPT event in San Remo, Italy attracted a record number of entrants and a significant prize pool could be created if a similar number attends the Monte Carlo Bay Resort and Hotel.

A total of 842 people entered last year's Grand Final, with 22-year-old student Glen Chorny taking down more than €2 million ($2.6 million) for winning the event.

Among those expected to make an appearance in 2009 is Yevginiy Timoshenko, fresh from his $2.1 million victory at the World Poker Tour Championship in Las Vegas.

Before the tournament itself takes place, a star-studded charity event is being held in order to raise money for humanitarian efforts in Darfur.

All the cash from the €4,000 buy-in Ante Up For Africa tournament will be donated, with those taking part including former tennis champion Boris Becker and French rugby player Sebastian Chabal.
