Timoshenko takes down WPT Championship

Yevgeniy Timoshenko has taken down the World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, pocketing over $2.1 million.
The 21-year-old beat Ran Azor in the heads-up, hitting a straight on the river to end the tournament after Azor had looked to be doubling up with a pair of queens.
Scotty Nguyen had been the first of the six players at the final table to be eliminated, shortly after doubling up Shannon Shorr.
Shorr himself followed in fifth place, when Timoshenko's pocket fours held up after Shorr moved all-in from the small blind.
Azor then sent both Christian Harder and Bertrand Grospellier to the rail on the same hand, with the pair pocketing $571,965 and $776,245 for fourth and third place respectively.
But the finish was enough for Grospellier to be crowned WPT Player of the Year.
Last year's WPT Championship winner netted $3.3 million, with the reduced pot in 2009 owing to a significant decline in entrants.
