Record numbers for EPT Grand Final

2009-04-30 16:26:28

Day 1b of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final has been completed, with a record number of entrants being attracted to the Monte Carlo event.

The second day 1 flight saw 539 runners turn up for the €10,000 ($13,200) buy-in tournament, bringing the total to 935.

And by the end of play it was Ami Barer who held the chip lead, although her count could not match that of Lee Nelson from day 1a and it is he who leads overall with 253,600.

Last year's champion, Glen Chorny, was among those who busted out, along with Gavin Griffin, Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott and rapper Nelly.

However, plenty of notable professionals remain in the hunt - including Bertrand Grospellier and Vanessa Rousso.

The official prize pool has not yet been announced but the winner is expected to take down more than the €2 million pocketed by Chorny at last year's event, which saw 842 entrants.
