Naalden takes chip lead at EPT Grand Final

2009-05-01 15:17:42

Day 2 of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final in Monte Carlo has been completed, with 135 runners surviving.

A record field of 935 entered the tournament earlier this week and Dutch player Marc Naalden has taken the chip lead going into day 3.

His count of 777,000 gives him a sizeable advantage over nearest challenger Annette Obrestad - the former World Series of Poker Europe Main Event winner having a stack of 671,500.

The large opening field for the €10,000 ($13,250) buy-in tournament has created a prize pool of over €9 million, with the winner set to take down €2.3 million.

Among those still in contention are Luca Pagano and Alex Kravchenko, but World Poker Tour Player of the Year Bertrand Grospellier has been eliminated.

Last year's EPT Grand Final was won by Glen Chorny - who pocketed €2 million - but he busted out during the second day 1 flight.
