NBC plans poker game show

2009-05-01 17:15:57

NBC has revealed that amateur poker players will be offered the chance to compete against professionals in a new game show.

The broadcaster is launching 'Face the Ace' in August and Sopranos star Steve Schirripa has been recruited as host.

Contestants will pick from one of four doors, behind each of which is a pro poker player.

They will then go heads-up in no-limit hold'em, progressing to play a different pro if they win.

A total of three can be played, with prize money rising to $1 million by the end.

The contestant has the choice of leaving after any of the wins, but will go home with nothing if they are sent to the rail.

Professionals set to take part in the show include Phil Ivey, who was recently named in Bluff Magazine's list of the 40 greatest World Series of Poker Champions.

Ivey ranked in 24th place and was recognized for being the youngest player to win five bracelets.
