Annie Duke 'fired' at final hurdle

2009-05-11 17:02:05

Professional poker player Annie Duke has just missed out on winning Celebrity Apprentice.

Duke was eventually beaten in the final by comedian Joan Rivers, who won $250,000 for her chosen charity.

Business tycoon Donald Trump set the pair the task of organizing a fundraising gala that included a pre-theater party and a silent auction.

And although Duke raised over $300,000 more than her opponent, it was Rivers that was ultimately 'hired' by Trump - with the money being donated to God's Love We Deliver, an organization that brings meals to seriously ill people who are housebound.

The three-hour broadcast featured some of the previously eliminated contestants returning to help out the finalists, with Rivers' daughter Melissa and basketball star Dennis Rodman among them.

Duke won a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in 2004, before taking down $2 million in the winner-takes-all WSOP Tournament of Champions later in the same year.
