Heimowitz 'most accomplished amateur' in WSOP history

Jay Heimowitz is the latest name to be included in a list of the 40 greatest World Series of Poker (WSOP) champions.
Bluff Magazine has been compiling the list to mark the 40th installment of the event this year and Heimowitz has claimed the number 13 spot.
Having won six bracelets between 1975 and 2001, the publication described him as "the most accomplished and revered amateur" in the history of the WSOP.
Although none of the New Yorker's victories came in the Main Event, he was noted for having seven finishes in the top 15, as well as making two final tables - coming third and sixth in 1980 and 1981 respectively.
Heimowitz has a total of $1.5 million in WSOP earnings to his name, having taken up the game at the age of nine.
He came in one rank higher than Scotty Nguyen, the five-time bracelet winner having recently been named in 14th place.
