Berry Johnston a "consummate professional"

2009-05-15 16:01:28

Berry Johnston has been added to a countdown of the 40 greatest World Series of Poker (WSOP) champions of all time.

Bluff Magazine noted that in addition to his five bracelets, Johnston has cashed in at the Main Event more times that any other player in history.

He won poker's grandest prize in 1986 - having previously finished third in 1982 and again in 1985 - and has won over $1 million in the Main Event alone.

Johnston's first bracelet came in 1983, his third in 1990 and the others in 1995 and 2001, with the publication describing him as being a "consummate professional" throughout the better part of three decades that he has been involved in the game.

The countdown of champions is being made to mark the 40th instalment of the WSOP and Johnston came in just ahead of Tom McEvoy and Jay Heimowitz, who were named in 12th and 13th places respectively.
