Lunkin takes down RPT Moscow

2009-05-19 16:03:37

Vitaly Lunkin has taken down the main event of the PokerStars Russian Poker Tour (RPT) Moscow.

All nine players at the final table were from the host country, with Lunkin prevailing to pocket 14,323,000 roubles ($449,000).

He entered the heads-up with a chip lead of nearly 2.8 million over Vyacheslav Gorjachev, who had just 310,000.

Gorjachev moved all-in before long, his ace-six going up against Lunkin's pocket tens.

It proved to be the final hand as the board came queen-eight-six-four-eight and Gojachev took home 7,877,000 roubles for his second-placed finish.

The victory was not the first Lunkin has experienced, the Russian having taken down a $1,500 no-limit hold'em event at the 2008 World Series of Poker.

Next month, Spearmint Casino in Prague will host the third leg of the European Masters of Poker, with the main event expected to generate a prize poll of €300,000 ($408,000) through its €1,000 buy-in.
