Team-based tournament included in WSOP schedule

2009-05-20 16:47:55

This year's World Series of Poker (WSOP) is to include a team tournament for the first time.

Hosted by Dream Team Poker, the event will be held on July 12th and 13th at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

The format was created by Dream Team Gaming and sees players rewarded for individual efforts as well as for their overall performance of their team.

Entrants are to compete in teams of three - with a buy-in of $560 per person - and the event comes after one held at Caesars Palace in March attracted 444 entrants.

Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP commissioner, remarked: "After seeing the terrific response to the recent Dream Team Poker tournaments in Las Vegas, we thought a team-based event would be a fun addition to the end of the WSOP."

The 2009 WSOP, which gets underway next week, will be the 40th installment of the event.
