Phil Ivey will promote WSOP final table

2009-11-02 17:29:24

Poker superstar Phil Ivey has decided to promote the forthcoming World Series of Poker (WSOP) final just one week before it begins.

The final table will resume on November 9th 2009, four months since the WSOP's last rounds of betting took place.

Play has been tabled since July so that organisers could promote the event, but Ivey has been unwilling to play ball - until now.

The man known either as Poison or the Tiger Woods of poker has previously expressed that media coverage is a distraction and that he sees himself as a professional gambler rather than a celebrity.

However, he is set to appear on ESPN's sports programme E:60 on November 3rd.

With such little time left until the WSOP final restarts, multi-millionaire Ivey will now use his celebrity in the game to sell the event.

His manager told ESPN magazine: "I've convinced Phil to pull back the curtain just a little."
