New poker term coined at WSOP final table

2009-11-13 15:35:51

This year's eventful final table at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) might have led to the creation of a new poker term, according to poker veteran Doyle Brunson.

In his DoylesRoom.com blog, Brunson said he has heard that the new term for someone who loses with A-K to someone with A-Q is that they have been "moon'ed" - a reference to the now infamous hand that led to the exit of poker legend Phil Ivey in seventh place at this year's WSOP final table.

Ivey started with one of the smallest stacks - less than ten million to chip-leader Darvin Moon's 58 million - but a poll on the WSOP website found that nearly 80 per cent of respondents tipped him to come out on top.

However, Ivey busted out in seventh when he pushed all-in with A-K and was called by Moon, who had A-Q.

Ivey made all the right moves, but the poker gods were not smiling on him that day and Moon hit a queen on the flop to send the seven-time WSOP bracelet winner to the rail.
