Jerry Yang hails 'lucky' WSOP winner Joe Cada

2009-11-18 07:35:11

Former World Series of Poker (WSOP) winner Jerry Yang has spoken out about this year's main event and congratulated winner Joe Cada - although he claims the victor had luck on his side.

Yang, who watched the main event from his restaurant in Merced, California, believes that good fortune played a huge part in this year's final table.

Yang told PokerListings: "Joe Cada is a good player, but he got incredibly lucky, especially with the pocket threes and the pocket deuces."

But he added: "I'm happy it worked out for him."

He also defended his decision to compete in less major tournaments since winning the WSOP main event in 2007, saying that he had donated a lot of time and money to charity.

Cada, 21, defeated Darvin Moon in the heads-up to become the youngest WSOP main event champion in the tournament's 40-year history and collect a prize of $8.5 million.
