Male poker player Greg Sessler claims ladies-only title

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit found an unusual winner in its latest ladies-only contest, in the form of Greg Sessler - who is not a lady.

Indeed, he was not the only male entrant in the contest at Harvey's Lake Tahoe, which featured four men among its 96-strong field.

However, it was Sessler who came out on top in the poker contest - which the WSOP stresses is not intended to be sexist.

Although the ladies' championships are designed to attract more female competitors, the WSOP concedes that there is no reason why men should have a natural edge in the sport.

Therefore, applications from male contestants are welcomed - and Sessler chose to compete as no other one-day event was within reach of his home.

His success was not bad news for all the women entrants, though, as the top nine all received prize money.

The WSOP also reports that a three-hour heads-up battle between Charlie Fiorella and Rip Fritzer came to a civil end, as the pair divided the prize money in the WSOP Circuit contest held at Harvey's Lake Tahoe, with Fiorella a narrow winner overall.
