Amer Sulaiman wins LAPT Costa Rica

2009-11-24 16:22:49

Canadian gamer Amer Sulaiman outlasted a field of 259 poker players to pocket the $172,096 first prize at the Costa Rica stop on the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT).

He was one of five Canadian players who made it into the last eight, so it was perhaps unsurprising that the heads-up saw an all-Canadian match-up as Sulaiman faced off against Sol Bergren.

Local gamer Rogelio Pardo was the only Costa Rican player to reach the final table and he busted out in third.

Eric Levesque finished in fourth, followed by Francis-Nicolas Bouchard, Darren Keyes, Carlos Giron of Guatemala and Patrick De Koster from the Netherlands.

Card Player reported that the final hand saw Bergren move all-in with 7-6 suited after a flop revealed a five and a four, only to be called by Sulaiman who had hit a top pair with his 10-7.

Bergren bricked on the turn and river when an ace and queen hit the felt, leaving Sulaiman to become the latest champion on the LAPT.

The last gamer to win on the tour in Costa Rica was Valdemar Kwaysser, who pocketed $274,103 in May 2008.
