Expert analysts needed for poker to translate well on TV

2009-11-25 16:52:47

In order for poker to transfer well to general audience via television, it is essential that expert analysts are on hand to provide commentary on the game, according to Yoshio Nakano.

The poker pro told Card Player magazine that most variants of the game could work well on television.

However, he said world-class players are needed for analysis of the game so the thought processes of those at the felt can be explained.

"There is not one way to play poker. All of the top players, none of them play the same, and they're all top players," he commented.

At the moment, no-limit Texas hold'em dominates the televised poker competitions, with shows such as Poker After Dark, High Stakes Poker and Celebrity Poker Showdown all allowing fans to watch their favorite gamers in action.

So far in his career, Nakano has won more than $250,000 in major live tournaments, with his largest cash coming in a World Series of Poker event in 2002 when he pocketed $60,000 in prize money.
