Madsen lands Borgata Winter Open

2010-02-08 15:55:57

Jeff Madsen has pocketed $625,000 by coming first in the Borgata Winter Open.

The 24-year-old, who was the World Series of Poker's (WSOP's) player of the year in 2006, beat Sirous Jamshidi heads-up to secure the crown.

According to Bluff Europe, Madsen had a rocky road to the top and had been dominated in a previous pot with Al Grimes when the latter held pocket cowboys.

Madsen had ace-king suited but managed to haul in the 6.7 million pot when three hearts fell on the board to give him a flush.

With only Jamshidi to beat, the two-time WSOP bracelet winner had a two-to-one stack advantage, which extended to a seven-to-one lead within 30 minutes.

The final hand saw Madsen call Jamshidi's queen-two all-in holding king-ten, with the board pairing his kings and securing him the title.

Madsen won both of his WSOP bracelets in 2006, taking home more than $1.2 million in total for his troubles.
