Victoria Coren has highlighted the importance of evolving continuously in order to be taken seriously as a poker player.
The journalist and card-playing enthusiast noted in her Guardian column that the best in the game must always be learning new tactics and different methods of winning pots.
"Betting fashions wax and wane; two of the world's top players, Vanessa Rousso and Gus Hansen, have both recently said that they completely changed their game strategies in the last year," she remarked.
According to Coren, her article was prompted by a recent hand she played in the High Rollers event at the Deauville leg of the European Poker Tour (EPT).
Short-stacked and holding ace-king suited, she went all-in despite an ace being exposed and removed from play, therefore reducing the chances of her hitting a pair.
Hands like this, the EPT season three event winner said, show that poker pros need to be constantly on their toes for unusual situations.
