Deep-stack poker 'is more aggressive'

2010-02-11 14:56:01

People playing in deep-stack poker tournaments are more likely to come across aggressive opponents, it has been claimed.

Writing for the San Francisco Chronicle, Matt Villano stated that games of this kind involve entrants receiving an increased number of chips when they sit down to the table.

"Think of deep-stack tournaments like poker on steroids: Because everybody is 'bigger,' most players come out swinging for the fences," he remarked.

According to Mr Villano, card sharps should use this to their advantage and only enter pots where they have a lock on the hand - such as pocket aces or kings.

Due to longer blinds and larger stacks patience can really pay off as individuals at the felt begin to start throwing their money around, he added.

Daniel Negreanu recently noted that poker players now-a-days are much more forceful in their tactics, something he believes is good for the overall development of the sport.
