Phil Ivey tops ESPN poker player rankings

2010-02-11 17:20:20

Phil Ivey has topped a monthly list of the best poker players in the world, judged by a panel of industry experts.

ESPN's The Nuts feature saw Ivey clinch the number one spot for the third month in a row and he was highlighted for coming second in the Aussie Millions AU$100,000 event, which saw him pocket over AU$550,000.

Andrew Feldman, writing for ESPN.com, said that the Tiger Woods of Poker is unlikely to be shifted from his throne for quite some time.

"He lost a first-place vote to [Jason] Mercier and Chris Moorman, but neither of those two players had anywhere near the support to overtake the top spot from Ivey," Feldman remarked.

Instead, Mercier secured third place, while Finnish pro Patrik Antonius was runner-up.

After his second-place finish in the Aussie Millions recently, Ivey became the all-time money leader in poker - taking the coveted honour from Daniel Negreanu.
