Daniel Negreanu failed to improve on a poor start to his Premier League season after falling victim to an unlikely river card against David Benyamine.
Playing in a recent heat, Negreanu said he was in the chip lead going into the final five of the session and was expecting a "solid finish".
However, after picking up king-queen suited he raised 48,000 chips, with Benyamine then going all-in with ace-eight.
While Kid Poker acknowledged he was behind, two other players at the table admitted to folding aces.
"The flop came K-6-3, the turn was a nine and so I was one card away from a monster chip lead and two more points with just one card that could kill me," he commented.
Despite their only being one left in the deck, an ace landed on the river and Negreanu was eliminated not long after in fifth.
The card sharp recently criticized Phil Hellmuth - who is also featuring in the Premier League - of "shocking" play in the World Series of Poker Caesar's Cup event.
