Hellmuth loses $200k on High Stakes opener

2010-02-17 12:03:49

Phil Hellmuth came away as the big loser on the recently aired opening chapter of the sixth series of High Stakes Poker.

The first episode saw a number of well-known faces including Daniel Negreanu, Gus Hansen, Tom 'durrrr' Dwan, Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Ivey.

Of the card sharps at the table, the majority bought in for $200,000 at the $400/$800/$200 game, with only durrrr and Ivey risking losing more than that by going in for $500,000 each.

However, it was the Poker Brat who walked away without any pocket change after he went on tilt following a number of competitive hands.

After a couple of tough beats, the 1989 World Series of Poker main event winner stuck his remaining $82,300 chips in the middle with only a slim change of beating opponent Ivey - who promptly busted him out.

The Tiger Woods of Poker finished with a $330,000 profit from the course of play.
