Unabomber secures Premier League hat trick

2010-02-17 12:01:11

Phil Laak has secured a third win out of three sessions in the Premier League poker championship.

The card sharp, also known as the Unabomber, is now sitting at the top of the leaderboard for the event with 48 points, Poker News reports.

Laak played in heats one, two and four and came away with the maximum score, leaving nearest competitor David Benyamine languishing in second place on 35 points.

"I feel like Isildur did before the downswing," he said, referring to the anonymous online poker player who burst onto the highest stakes games available on the internet before losing $3 million to Brian Hastings in one session.

Seasoned gamers Tony G, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth are at the bottom of the table in the 12-entrant competition, while net qualifier Giovanni Safina is sitting in third position.

Commenting on his Premier League performance recently, Negreanu said it was "not the start [he] was looking for" and he is now concentrating on breaking the top eight instead of the leading four.
