Vitaly Lunkin selected as European poker player of the year

The European poker player of the year has been named as Vitaly Lunkin at an Aviation Club, Paris ceremony.Celebrating the ninth annual European Poker Awards, the event saw the Russian clinch the title for his endeavours throughout 2009.
Over the course of the 12-month period, the card sharp cashed more than $2.7 million in tournament winnings and made it into the money six times in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) for that year.
His largest single prize was landing the WSOP $40,000 Anniversary competition - retaining his title from 2008 - which saw him take home nearly $1.9 million.
Also recognised with an accolade was Finnish pro Patrik Antonius, who was ranked first in the best online poker player category.
Jeff Lisandro - who is Australian, but based in Italy - was selected for the single most outstanding tournament performance trophy, while rookie of the year went to Frenchman Antoine Saout.
