The North American Poker Tour (NAPT) is to air on ESPN2 from April of this year after PokerStars agreed an exclusive deal with the broadcaster.
Under the terms of the deal, the channel will air 16 hours of the newly-launched event, as well as a number of reruns, from all of the NAPT legs.
Commenting on the announcement, professional player Daniel Negreanu said it will take the sport to "a different level".
He remarked: "The NAPT is set to bring the excitement of world-class tournament poker to millions who love this game as much as I do."
Last month, Negreanu wrote in his Full Contact Poker blog that he had a meeting with organizers of the tour and confirmed that he is "really excited" to be involved in the project, which he predicted is going to be very successful.
Those who wish to take part in the main event of season one will have to part ways with $5,000 for the privilege.
