Negreanu: TJ Cloutier is a great reader of players

2010-02-19 16:06:08

Daniel Negreanu has praised TJ Cloutier for his ability to gain tells on other players by watching them at the table.

Writing for his Full Contact Poker blog, Negreanu claimed that Cloutier - who has won six World Series of Poker bracelets - was one of the greatest around in Kid Poker's early days.

He remarked: "TJ might wait for the young kid in the five seat to raise it with his left hand very quickly and TJ would know that meant the kid didn't have [a good hand]."

According to the Canadian, once Cloutier was able to get a read on someone he could then go over the top of them when they were trying to bluff, forcing them out of the pot.

Negreanu noted that this is why the elder statesman of the sport has such consistent performances in tournaments over the years, although he admitted that this style of play is not as effective as it once was.

Younger players are so much more aggressive now, he added.
