Safina guarantees Premier League final table spot

Giovanni Safina has cemented his spot at the final table of the PartyPoker Premier League IV.

Safina, who qualified through an online satellite costing him just €100 ($134), is now guaranteed at least $108,000 of the $1.5 million prize pool.

The 44-year-old said it "was emotional" having to compete against some of the world's best pros, but he added that he is growing in confidence each day.

"I am going to do this for Italy and for myself," he remarked.

Despite being on the receiving end of verbal abuse from fellow player Luke 'Full Flush' Schwartz, Safina kept his composure in the final heat.

"I hope Luke behaves himself tomorrow … whatever I don't care … this is just such an amazing experience," the civil servant said.

After winning his place in the $100,000 event, Safina commented that poker is nothing more than a hobby that he does in his spare time.
