Swede takes down EPT Copenhagen

2010-02-22 17:29:58

Anton Wigg has taken down the Copenhagen leg of the European Poker Tour (EPT), following a gruelling battle.

The Swede eventually triumphed over Italy's Francesco de Vivo after four hours of heads-up play between the two.

Wigg, who won the European Masters in Barcelona last year, pocketed €494,000 ($671,000) for the victory - his first ever EPT cash - as well as earning a place at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

And he expressed relief at emerging from the field of 423 runners as the winner, describing the feeling as "wonderful".

"I was in real trouble many times but I kept my cool and told myself never to give up and I am so proud to have come through," he added.

Berlin is the next stop for the EPT - the German capital hosting a tournament from March 2nd to 7th, the winner of which has been guaranteed €1 million.
